We are still progressing well with the CAPS double-shot tooling, and we're sorry it's taking this long - it's a lot more involved than we had initially anticipated - but we are getting closer each round. The time-consuming part of producing these is mastering batches of coloured plastics - a process that involves many different colour masters being added which alters the material properties. Consequently this changes the injection moulding parameters as well as how the base keycap and legend interact with each other.
For each colour combination, the parameters will be different and multiple test moulds are required to attain the correct configuration. Below are photos from our latest test runs for MUSK colourway fresh out of the mould this week.
We want to address some of the comments surrounding our RAMA WORKS® catalogue. Product diversification is a standard corporate strategy as part of business development and has no bearing on the product delays. While mechanical keyboards have been our primary market, as a design studio we are constantly striving to apply our design language to create fun and innovative products.
The company takes full responsibility for the production backlog that has negatively impacted our vendors and customers. Factors attributing to the delays were both unforeseen and disappointing - it has been a struggle through COVID-19 pandemic, ongoing lockdowns, internal factors, and products not meeting our stringent QC benchmark (constant back-and-forth shipping between our manufacturer and us).
We can appreciate how certain customers may be frustrated with these new products as it may seem like we have shifted our attention. We want to take this opportunity to state that keyboards and related products will always be an integral part of our business.
Recently we have been developing products with shorter turnaround time that we can get to our customers quickly. Examples of these include DUCK switches, GRID keycaps, NFC cards, merchandise and more. Alternative suppliers / manufacturers have been engaged for these new products in order to not further strain our existing production line. We are closely monitoring the COVID situation in China and working with our manufacturing partners to get through these as soon as possible.
Afterall, our goal is for customers to enjoy using our designs on a day-to-day basis. Over the years, RAMA WORKS® has delivered tens of thousands of products around the globe and will continue to do so. Our team is small, but we're all working hard behind the scenes and appreciate your continued support.
